North Mymms headteacher Benjamin Mallett, was “devoted to Welham Green School” but was also a strict disciplinarian. “I punished severely”, he was quoted as saying. One recipient of those punishments, James Chuck, reported six cuts on each hand. Mallett was also organist and choirmaster at St Mary's church, he retired in 1922.

In his book North Mymms Schools and their Children, Peter Kingsford wrote about the history of education in the parish.

In this article, published in the May 1987 issue of the Chancellor’s Community Newsletter, Kingsford writes about education in the parish in 1724 when to qualify to teach a person had “to be of meek temper and humble behaviour; to have good government of himself and to keep good order”.
