In 1936 there were just two shops around Brookmans Park's Bradmore Green. One sold groceries the other sold sweets and stamps. The nearest bakery was in Welham Green; the nearest butchers was in Potters Bar.

It was the year Doris Childs moved to the village. In the November 1994 issue of the Chancellors Community Newsletter Doris shared her memories of 58 years living in Brookmans Park.

  1. We moved to Brookmans Park in 1938 when I was about 5 and lived at what was 3 - later changed to 9 Brookmans Avenue. We moved in 1952. I went with a little group of 8 to a neighbour’s house to have lessons in the morning with Miss Coleman before she opened a small school above one of the shops. There was also another small school run in a private house by Mrs Watts. Such a lot will have changed since my childhood there but I would love to see a picture of our house as it is today.
